Elisabeth von Steinheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elisabeth von Steinheim (* before 1235 in Steinheim an der Murr ; † between 1269 and 1275 in Steinheim an der Murr) was the last of the von Steinheim family and married twice. During their two marriages, she was named Elisabeth von Hohenriet (also known as Heinriet) and Elisabeth von Blankenstein.

ancestry

Elisabeth von Steinheim was the last of the Steinheim family. Her father was Albert von Steinheim. The family seat was the castle on the Burgberg in Steinheim an der Murr. The castle was destroyed around 1250 while Elisabeth von Steinheim was still alive.

In 1235 Elisabeth von Steinheim received the patronage right of the church in Steinheim after a legal dispute between Count Alwig and Berthold von Sulz and Elisabeth's father Albert von Steinheim.

Marriages and founding of monasteries

In her first marriage she was married to Gerung von Hohenriet (alternative spellings: Gerung von Heinriet , Gerung von Henried) and carried the name Elisabeth von Hohenriet. Nothing further is known about the first marriage. At the time of the destruction of the family residence, Elisabeth von Steinheim married her second husband, knight Berthold von Blankenstein. From then on she was called Elisabeth von Blankenstein.

The marriage with Berthold von Blankenstein was approved on April 4, 1251 by Pope Innocent IV . It should be noted that on the same day the Pope gave his approval to found a monastery in Steinheim an der Murr. Due to the fact that Elisabeth von Steinheim was already married once, it is assumed that the marriage permit had to be supported by the foundation of the monastery.

The monastery was finally donated in 1254.

A later nun of the monastery was named Burcsint von Heinriet, whose mother was born Blankenstein. Thus Elisabeth von Steinheim was related to this nun twice: once through Elisabeth's first husband Gerung von Heinriet (Gerung von Hohenriet) and again through her second husband, Berthold von Blankenstein.

In 1269 Elisabeth von Blankenstein, meanwhile widowed, bought the other half as free property in exchange for the transfer of half of her property to the feudal lords Count Gottfried von Löwenstein and Count Hartmann von Grüningen (today's Markgröningen ) and gave it to her and her second as a gift in 1254 Consort founded Mariental Monastery (Steinheim an der Murr) .

No writings or illustrations by Elisabeth von Steinheim have survived.
