Benjy is an American documentary - short film by Fred Zinnemann from the year 1951. Lee Aaker can be seen in the title role of Benjy. The film won an Oscar .

Henry Fonda tells the story of the boy Benjy, who is born with a disability. An orthopedic pediatrician wants to cure the child who suffers from scoliosis with appropriate therapy. First, however, he has to convince Benjamin's parents that he is actually able to help their son, whom they reject because of his disability.

The film was produced by Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital and distributed by Paramount Pictures . Benjy was the last short film that Fred Zinnemann made. Zinnemann originally shot the film with his crew to provide financial support for the Los Angeles Orthopedic Hospital. In his 1992 autobiography, he noted that the cast of the film had been put together by Paramount Pictures and that the union members associated with the production had returned their salaries to the hospital. Henry Fonda also donated his fee.

Award

Fred Zinnemann was awarded an Oscar for his film in the category “Best Documentary Short Film” at the 1952 Academy Awards.
