Moated castle in Schatthausen

The moated castle Schatthausen is located in Schatthausen , a district of Wiesloch in the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis ( Baden-Württemberg ). The castle is a protected architectural monument .

history

Today's east wing of the moated castle was built after 1562 by von Bettendorff, presumably on the site of an earlier manor house. The brothers Abraham and Adam Gerner von Lilienstein owned the castle from 1665 to 1677. Their coat of arms, as an alliance coat of arms with von Brüggen, still adorns the entrance gate to the castle. In 1670 the castle was rebuilt in an unknown form. The north wing was built around 1720. The castle was then rebuilt several times and expanded with an estate . The three-wing, three-storey complex was acquired in 1828 by the Barons Göler von Ravensburg , who still own it today. The castle is surrounded by an intact moat .
