History and layout

The castle, which was probably built around 1206 by the Counts of Eberstein on the foremost spur of the confluence of the Winkelbach in the Waldangelbach above the village, only shows the remains of the foundations of the ring wall and two corner tower buildings. The castle from the early 13th century was once a pentagonal complex, which was surrounded by a ring wall with four corner towers with a half-timbered structure . A dungeon never owned the plant probably. The Palas was three stories and had a stair tower with snail-shaped spiral staircase. The castle was the seat of the Lords of Angellach until they died out in the early 17th century . After the Thirty Years' War , Duke Friedrich August von Württemberg-Neuenstadt had the castle renovated in 1685, but it no longer served as a manor house. In 1806 the property became the property of the Grand Duchy of Baden. Around 1860 the complex was still largely preserved, albeit in a badly dilapidated condition. Around 1900 the hall, stair tower and outbuildings were torn down. The spiral staircase was preserved and installed in the nearby Buchenauerhof . The area was leveled and temporarily served as a sports field.
