Börrstadt is a municipality in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Winnweiler , within which it is the second largest in terms of area and the fifth largest in terms of population.

location
The place is in the North Palatinate Uplands between the Donnersberg in the north and the northernmost foothills of the Palatinate Forest in the south in the so-called Börrstadter Senke . Börrstadt to include the residential places Hahnweilerhof , Herfingerhof, Kreuzhof, Lindenhof , Mühlbusch, Sonnenhof, Theresienhof, Walzhof, Bahnwärterhaus Aalen Bach, Forsthaus Börrstadt and Waldhaus Klausberg.
Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Steinbach am Donnersberg , Standenbühl , Dreisen , Göllheim , Breunigweiler , Sippersfeld , Winnweiler , Imsbach and Rockenhausen .
Elevations and waters
In the south-western area of the district, the 400.6 meter high Bocksrück extends on the boundary to Winnweiler and Sippersfeld . The 369.8 meter high Langdell lies southeast of the Hahnweilerhof. In the far east of the district the Pfrimm runs in a south-north direction . Its left tributary Grundheckerbach , which receives the Eichbach before its mouth , flows through the middle of the Börrstadt settlement area.
history
Börrstadt was first mentioned in a document on February 10, 891 as "Birensceidt". During the time of the tribal duchies, the place belonged to the Duchy of Franconia . From the High Middle Ages Börrstadt belonged to the County of Falkenstein . In the 15th century the place was divided into Ober- and Niederbörrstadt. Only after the French Revolution were the places reunited. From the end of the 18th century, Börrstadt was briefly part of the Upper Austrian Upper Office of Winnweiler .
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , the community was incorporated into the French Donnersberg department and the canton of Winnweiler . As a result of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the place belonged again to Austria . A year later it was slammed into Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 Börrstadt was part of the Land Commissioner in Kaiserslautern , which was then converted into a district office. On December 1, 1900, the community moved to the newly created district office Rockenhausen.
From 1939 the community was part of the Rockenhausen district . After the Second World War , the place became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In 1961 the community had a total of 953 inhabitants. In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , Börrstadt moved to the newly created Donnersbergkreis on June 7, 1969, together with most of the other places in the district . Three years later the place became part of the Verbandsgemeinde Winnweiler .

The municipal council in Börrstadt consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Local mayor is Torsten Windecker. He was elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 with a share of the vote of 60.34%, succeeding Martin Fattler, who was no longer running.

Cultural monuments
The Catholic Church of St. Nicholas was built around 1800. Next to her is a stone cross from 1752. The listed forester's house on the Hahnweilerhof was built in 1737 during the Habsburg era. At Hahnweilerhof there is a hermit hermitage from the Middle Ages carved into the rock .
archeology
In the north-west of the district there is a menhir . The Pfaffenschlag burial mound field is located further to the north-west near the Hahnweilerhof ; it includes six burial mounds from the period 800–400 BC. Chr.
Garden railway
The Börrstadt garden railway is the only 1: 5 scale model railway in Germany that allows passenger transport. The locomotives made by Karl-Heinz Jung were built according to original models. The area around the community hall offers an adequate backdrop with a train station, signal box, tunnel, bridge and level crossing.

The Börrstadt Ammunition Depot operated by the US Army was located on site until 1992 .

The A 63 ( Kaiserslautern - Mainz ) runs directly northeast of Börrstadt . The former station of the Zellertalbahn in Börrstadt was closed. The nearest train station is in Winnweiler on the Alsenz Valley Railway .
