Dörrmoschel is a municipality in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate , Germany . It belongs to the Nordpfälzer Land association.
geography
The place is located in the northern Palatinate mountains in the valley of the Moschel west of the Donnersberg between Kaiserslautern and Bad Kreuznach . The street village stretches from east to west along the local road, the only street in town next to Friedhofstraße.
history
Dörrmoschel is first mentioned in 1212 under the name Siccamushela . The Latin sicca "dry", which was adopted as "dörr" in today's place names, was used to distinguish it from the nearby Heiligenmoschel in the valley of the Moschelbach . Both rivers go back to the same root word * muska- "moss".
Dörrmoschel was the aristocratic seat of Duchess Charlotte Friederike von der Pfalz (* December 2, 1653 in Zweibrücken, † October 27, 1712 in Dörrmoschel), the widow of Wilhelm Ludwig Hereditary Prince of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , who died at the age of 27 . After the French Revolution , the place was incorporated into the French Donnersberg department . As a result of the Congress of Vienna , he was Bavarian from 1816 to 1945 . After the Second World War , Dörrmoschel was part of the French occupation zone and was incorporated into the newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946.
