Gerbach is a municipality in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Nordpfälzer Land , within which it is the sixth largest local community in terms of number of inhabitants. Colloquially it is often referred to as " Little Paris ".
geography
location
The place is located in the North Palatinate Uplands within the Bürgerwald sub-area northwest of the Donnersberg between Kaiserslautern and Bad Kreuznach . Gerbach also includes the Althof, Kahlenbergweiher, Köhlerhof and Schneebergerhof residential areas . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Gaugrehweiler , Kriegsfeld , Ruppertsecken , Würzweiler , Dielkirchen and Sankt Alban .
Elevations and waters
In the north-east of the district, directly on the border to Kriegsfeld, the Taubernheide extends 459 meters .
The Appelbach flows through Gerbach in a south-north direction , which takes the Taubenkropfbach from the left within the district . In the middle of the settlement area, the Appelbach joins the Gerbach from the right ; The Wasenbach also flows into the latter . The Gutenbach also rises in the northeastern municipality near the Schneebergerhof .
history
It was first mentioned in a document in 1192. Until the end of the 18th century, Gerbach belonged to the County of Falkenstein , which was most recently part of the Upper Austrian Upper Office of Winnweiler .
In 1794 the left bank of the Rhine was occupied in the First Coalition War. From 1798 to 1814 Gerbach belonged to the canton of Kirchheim - alternatively called canton Kirchheimbolanden - in the Donnersberg department . As a result of the Congress of Vienna , he was Bavarian from 1816 to 1945 . From 1818 to 1862 Gerbach was part of the Kirchheim Land Commissioner , which was then converted into a district office. On December 1, 1900, the community moved to the newly created district office Rockenhausen
From 1939 the place was part of the district of Rockenhausen . After the Second World War , Gerbach was part of the French zone of occupation and was incorporated into the newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946. In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the community moved to the newly created Donnersbergkreis. In 1972 it was added to the newly formed community of Rockenhausen . Gerbach has been part of the Nordpfälzer Land association since 2020 .

The council in Gerbach consists of twelve council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

The local mayor is Daniel Heinz. In the local election on May 26, 2019, he was elected with 84.23% of the vote. He replaced Klaus Hofmann, who had not taken up office again after 15 years.

Parish partnership

Culture
Cultural monuments
The town center is designated as a monument zone . In addition, there are a total of nine individual objects that are listed , including the Catholic Church of St. Michael.
Clubs and organizations
In addition to the sports club, there is the fire brigade support association , the male choir, the Klä Paris Carnival Association , the rural women , the primary school support association and the Kerweborsch. The clubs organize the street festival every year in cooperation with the local community.
The men's choir 1861 Gerbach e. V. celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2011. The Klä Paris Carnival Association (KPKV) celebrated its 22nd anniversary in 2012, as is usual for carnival associations.
The leisure and education center of the Rheinhessen-Pfalz district association of the German Red Cross is located in the Schneebergerhof district .
The Chara community has been located on the outskirts of the village since 2000 . V. , a Catholic lay community with a focus on child and youth work.
Economy and Infrastructure

In the wind farm Schneebergerhof stands since 2010, among other things, a wind power plant of the type Enercon E-126 . At the end of 2013, a rotor blade came loose and fell to the ground. The cause was several broken bolts on the rotor blade fastening. In May 2014 the system was put back into operation after repairs.
traffic
State road 385 , which runs from Ginsweiler to Kriegsfeld, and state road 400 from Rockenhausen to Wöllstein cross in the village . The county road 33 connects the Schneebergergerhof with the nuclear community. There is a connection to long-distance traffic via the A 63 in the southeast. In Rockenhausen there is a train station of the Alsenz Valley Railway . The 914 bus operated by Behles Bus leads from Gerbach to this area and runs north to Alsenz .
education
In Gerbach there is a primary school that is also responsible for Bayerfeld-Steckweiler , Dielkirchen , St. Alban , Ruppertsecken and Würzweiler .
tourism
The Appelbach cycle path also runs through Gerbach . The Donnersberg-Donon long-distance hiking trail, marked with a red bar, runs through the north-east of the district . The Palatinate Camping Park is also located in the municipality.
