The Verbandsgemeinde Rockenhausen was an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional body in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . The municipality of Rockenhausen belonged to the town of Rockenhausen and 19 independent local parishes ; the administrative seat was in the eponymous town of Rockenhausen.

On January 1, 2020, the Verbandsgemeinde merged with the Verbandsgemeinde Alsenz-Obermoschel to form the Nordpfälzer Land Association .

The Verbandsgemeinde Rockenhausen became part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform started in the 1960s on the basis of the "Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate" of March 1, 1972, came into force on April 22, 1972 newly formed.

Previously, the administrative structures originating from the Palatinate (Bavaria) (1816–1946) essentially applied in the then administrative district of Palatinate .

On May 23, 2015, the municipality council in Rockenhausen decided to apply for a name change to "Verbandsgemeinde Nordpfalz". The application was rejected by the Interior Ministry in September 2015. The North Palatinate is larger than the administrative area of ​​the community of Rockenhausen, it said in the rejection.

Association municipal council

Due to the upcoming merger of the municipalities of Alsenz-Obermoschel and Rockenhausen on January 1, 2020, a new structure was already elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 (see: Result ). The term of office of the previous community councils was extended by state law to December 31, 2019. The Rockenhausen municipal council, which was in office throughout the 2019 calendar year, consisted of 28 voluntary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 25, 2014 , and the full-time mayor as chairman.

The last full-time mayor of the Rockenhausen community was Michael Cullmann (SPD). In direct election on September 22, 2013, he was elected for eight years with 63.58% of the votes. He was the successor to Karl-Heinz Seebald (SPD), who was no longer running for reasons of age. However, Cullmann's term of office ended prematurely on December 31, 2019 due to the merger of the two municipalities of Alsenz-Obermoschel and Rockenhausen by a state law.

education

Community kindergartens are located in Bistigart , Dielkirchen , Gundersweiler , Seelen and Würzweiler . There is also a Catholic and Protestant kindergarten in Rockenhausen as well as a state special educational kindergarten. There is also a youth house in Rockenhausen. Gehrweiler , Gerbach , Imsweiler and Rockenhausen have primary schools . The secondary schools ( integrated comprehensive school , secondary school plus , vocational school , special school ) are located in Rockenhausen. The Abitur can be taken at the comprehensive school or the Wilhelm-Erb-Gymnasium in Winnweiler (outside of the association).
