history
The Verbandsgemeinde Rockenhausen became part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform started in the 1960s on the basis of the "Thirteenth State Law on Administrative Simplification in the State of Rhineland-Palatinate" of March 1, 1972, came into force on April 22, 1972 newly formed.
Previously, the administrative structures originating from the Palatinate (Bavaria) (1816–1946) essentially applied in the then administrative district of Palatinate .
On May 23, 2015, the municipality council in Rockenhausen decided to apply for a name change to "Verbandsgemeinde Nordpfalz". The application was rejected by the Interior Ministry in September 2015. The North Palatinate is larger than the administrative area of the community of Rockenhausen, it said in the rejection.
