Building of the former Latin school in Schloßstraße

The Wilhelm-Erb-Gymnasium is a high school in the Palatinate municipality of Winnweiler . It is a public school sponsored by the Donnersbergkreis . The school is named after the pathologist and neurologist Wilhelm Erb , who was born in Winnweiler. Today 720 students are taught by 52 teachers at the school.

history

On October 16, 1873, a Latin school was founded in Winnweiler . This school was located in a building that still exists today at Schloßstraße 53 , which is now a listed building. After a secondary school branch had already been introduced at the Latin school, the Latin school became a secondary school in 1927. Two years later the school moved to its current location on Gymnasiumstraße . After the Second World War , the Realanstalt became a Progymnasium in 1949. Finally, the Progymnasium was expanded into a full high school in 1967, and since then the students no longer have to travel to Kaiserslautern to complete their Abitur. As part of this, today's new school building was built in 1973.

In August 2017 the high school was threatened anonymously on the Internet, which led to police investigations. The police took security measures and the class was able to continue. In retrospect, the threat turned out to be a bad joke by a student.
