Gundersweiler is a municipality in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Nordpfälzer Land association.

Geographical location

Gundersweiler is located in the valley of the Moschelbach in the North Palatinate Mountains southwest of the Donnersberg between Kaiserslautern and Bad Kreuznach .

The Erlenhof and Messersbacherhof residential areas also belong to Gundersweiler .

history

Gundersweiler was first mentioned in 891 (as novale Guntharii ). The name comes from one of the first settlers, Gunthari . Guntzwilre is mentioned for the first time in a document from 1290 . In 1355 Gundersweiler became a fiefdom of the Electoral Palatinate and in 1515 it became part of the Electoral Palatinate sub-district of Rockenhausen , the forerunner of today's Rockenhausen community .

In the 17th century, the area suffered considerably from robber barons , such as the notorious Waldemar von Odenbach, so that the road through the Moschelbach valley had to be guarded by armed knights . In the Thirty Years' War Gundersweiler was like all the villages in the area almost completely destroyed.

After the French Revolution , the place was incorporated into the French Donnersberg department . As a result of the Congress of Vienna , he was Bavarian from 1816 to 1945 . After the Second World War , Gundersweiler was part of the French occupation zone and was incorporated into the newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946.

The population of Gundersweiler is predominantly Protestant . The hall church , built in late Baroque style in 1727, is available for worship . The church was placed under monument protection in 2000 .
