Butler County is a county in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 174,083 residents and a population density of 85 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Butler .

history

The county was founded on March 12, 1800 and after the general from the Revolutionary War , Richard Butler , named.

One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Harmony Historic District . Eleven structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 20, 2018).
