The Indiana County is a county in the US -amerikanischen state Pennsylvania . At the 2010 census , the county had 88,880 residents and a population density of 41.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Indiana .
geography
The county is located in west central Pennsylvania and has an area of 2,161 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water. The southern border is formed by the Conemaugh River . The following neighboring counties border Indiana County:

history
The county was formed on March 30, 1803 from parts of Clearfield and Westmoreland Counties . The origin of the name is not completely clear: Indiana could be the Latinized name for "land of the Indians" or stand for the Indiana territory .
The opera and lieder singer Renée Fleming (* 1959) comes from Indiana, Pennsylvania .
