Snyder County is a county in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 37,546 residents and a population density of 44 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Middleburg .

history

Snyder County was formed out of Union County on March 2, 1855 , and named after Simon Snyder , Pennsylvania governor from 1808 to 1817.

The Aline Covered Bridge is one of the county's six entries in the NRHP.

Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 24, 2018).

The majority of the population is of European descent (mainly Germans, English, Poles and Italians). To date, around 5% of the population still speak German as their mother tongue. This makes Snyder County, the county with the highest rate of German speakers in all of Pennsylvania.
