history

The county was formed from Northampton County on March 21, 1798 and named after the general and politician Anthony Wayne .

One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Delaware and Hudson Canal . 17 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of July 25, 2018).
