The Mennonite Church Weierhof (also prayer house ) is located in the district Weierhof ( Crayenbühlstraße 14 ) of the municipality Bolanden in the Donnersbergkreis . The church is listed as a cultural monument .

church

As early as 1771, the first Mennonite church was built on the Weierhof , the "Lehr", the outlines of which can still be seen in the local Mennonite cemetery. Based on the model of a Quaker church in England, the new church that still exists today was finally built in 1837. The design came from the architect Jacob Krehbiel . The building is a relatively simple, towerless saddle roof building with larger arched windows . The interior of the church is also designed without decorations or altar. The central point of the interior is the pulpit. In 1980 the church was extensively renovated. Among other things, new windows and benches and underfloor heating were installed. A short time later a new organ could also be put into operation. A Mennonite community center was built not far from the church building in 1966.

local community

The foundation of the community Weierhof in 1682 goes back to Anabaptists who immigrated from Switzerland . In 2013 it had 283 members; Children are not included in this number, as Mennonites only baptize people who can make their own creed when they are of mature age.

Today, the community is involved in the work of the private boarding school on Donnersberg, which was founded in the 19th century by the Mennonite preacher Michael Löwenberg. When the boarding school was founded, there was still the hope of establishing a theological training center for prospective Mennonite pastors. Christian Neff , who initiated the first Mennonite World Conference in Zurich in 1925 , also came from the community .

The library and archive building of the Mennonite History Association, newly built in 1998, is also located on the Weierhof .
