List of churches in the working group of Mennonite congregations in Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list gives an overview of the churches and meetinghouses or community centers within the Working Group of Mennonite Congregations in Germany (AMG). In addition to the buildings listed here, there are others by Mennonite communities and meetinghouses outside the AMG (such as the AMBD ).

introduction

As a church , community center or community center in the sense of this list, prayer houses or the like are also understood. Churches used by Mennonite congregations or other meeting rooms of other churches and institutions on a permanent basis (e.g. by lease) are also considered churches in the Working Group of Mennonite congregations in Germany for the purposes of this list .

Since the Mennonites have a Congregational structure , the church buildings are administered directly by the individual communities on site.

The three “community associations” (according to the Mennonite self-image; viewed from the outside, the name churches formally suggests itself ) that make up the AMG are called regional associations :

  • ASM: Working Group of Southwest German Mennonite Communities (mainly in Rhineland-Palatinate)
  • VdM: Association of German Mennonite Congregations (mainly in southern Germany)
  • VDM: Association of the German Mennonite Congregations (mainly in Northern Germany)

Towards the end of the 18th century, meeting houses were built ... which took in more than the originally permitted 20 people, but which were not allowed to be recognizable as churches from the outside; they had to look like farmhouses. (The little church in Frankenthal-Eppstein has preserved the state of such a hidden church to this day.) Community portrait on the AMG website (August 29, 2009)

Neustadt an der Weinstrasse - Branchweilerhof Rhineland-Palatinate VdM Branchweilerhof chapel 1275 (?) Oldest Mennonite church building in the world. Church services have been celebrated in the old hospital chapel since 1277. The foundations and part of the walls date back to the 12th century. The Anabaptist refugees from Switzerland continued this tradition from 1683.

Around 1275, when the hospital was built, the chapel, in which we still celebrate our services today, was probably built. Originally it was larger, but the main nave was converted into a residential house (the so-called shepherd's house) in the 17th or 18th century, which was demolished in 1957.

Also used by the mission church , member of the VdM (MJ 2010, 169).

Conversion of stables and barns on the Branchweilerhof to modern community rooms since 2011.

After the Counts of Wartenberg had granted the building permit, the construction was made possible by contributions from the Dutch and Krefeld Mennonites. In 1835/55 the building was significantly enlarged. Today a large part of the community life takes place in the community hall, where the preacher's apartment is also located.
