The Marienstift is an Evangelical Lutheran Diakonissenanstalt in Braunschweig . She is a member of the Diakonisches Werk and the Kaiserwerther Association of German Deaconess Mother Houses . The diaconal tasks of the foundation are understood as a "work of Christian faith", the standard of service is, according to the statutes, "the gospel of Jesus Christ". The facility employs around 650 people and includes the parent company, the Theodor Fliedner Church, a hospital , a nursing home (Bethanien) and training centers . The foundation is managed by a board of directors with three full-time members, which is controlled by a foundation council with seven honorary members.

history

On May 8, 1870, Siloah's house on Wolfenbütteler Strasse was consecrated as a deaconess house. Before that, the building had been a hospital founded by the Braunschweig Patriotic Women's Association, chaired by Auguste von Campe-Deensen. In 1881 the house was given the name Marienstift and thus separated from the women's association. On October 25, 1883, the Marienstift on Helmstedter Strasse was inaugurated with 300 patients, 30 nurses and an assistant doctor. Duke Wilhelm had given permission to name the house after his mother Marie von Baden . On January 1, 1960, the Marienstift became a legal foundation under public law. Until 1987 the monastery was a foundation under public law. On February 11, 1987 the Marienstift was recognized as a legal foundation under private law and as a church foundation.

Facilities

The Marienstift hospital includes a clinic for internal medicine (head: Rainer Prönneke), a palliative ward (head: Simone Giller), a surgical clinic (head: Ekkehard Möbius), a clinic for hand surgery and congenital hand malformations (head: Niels Benatar), a clinic for anesthesia (management: Jan Halatek and Udo Schwippel) and a gynecological clinic with gynecology and obstetrics (management: Branko Milkanovic).

The retirement and nursing center Bethany has four living areas with a total of 250 seats, a liturgical and pastoral services, a corresponding fair park, a library, a bowling alley, a café with a stand, a barber shop, a practice for physical therapy and massage practice. In addition, there is a team of “ Green Ladies and Gentlemen ” and a team of full-time and honorary pastors.

In the training facilities of the Marienstift there is a school for health and nursing care , as well as a vocational school for elderly care. The school and the nurses' home are located in the Florence Nightingale House.
