Richard Borek Foundation

The Richard Borek Foundation (spelling: Richard Borek Foundation) is a foundation under private law based in Braunschweig . Its purpose is to “support measures to expand the cultural significance of the Braunschweig region ”.

The foundation is by Richard Borek named (1874-1947), the founder of a major Briefmarkenversand action, and in 1981 by his son and successor, Richard Borek II. Arts and Culture

The Foundation supports from the beginning in 1987 of students and graduates of the College of Fine Arts , founded Film Festival Braunschweig .

Together with the NORD / LB Public Foundation , the Braunschweig United Monastery and Study Fund, the Braunschweig State Theater and the City of Braunschweig, in 2002 she donated the Louis Spohr Music Prize, endowed with 10,000 euros , which was first given to the composer and Conductor Peter Ruzicka , artistic director of the Salzburg Festival , was awarded, and a youth music prize.

Cityscape and monument preservation

The foundation's most prominent contribution to the Braunschweig cityscape is the replica of the Braunschweig Quadriga , which has been on the partial reconstruction of the Braunschweig Palace , which opened in 2007, since October 2008 .

In the Riddagshausen district, the arboretum , an arboretum collection established in 1838, was renovated in 1998/99 with the help of the Richard Borek Foundation. The almost 80 different tree species are marked with their names and can be viewed on a tour.

The foundation is involved in the “Our clean Braunschweig” project, established in 2002, which introduced needs-based city cleaning with a “garbage fire brigade” and, among other things, works in cooperation with the police, the city and the Graffiti-EX association for the removal and prevention of graffiti begins. This also includes a city patrol made up of 20 police officers , 10 employees of the Braunschweiger Verkehrs-GmbH and a municipal mobile environmental service with 5 employees who punish environmental offenses in addition to their actual tasks.

Since 2002, the foundation has also been involved in promoting private conservation measures for architectural monuments. In the first two years, 36 projects were funded.

In 2006 she was involved in the renovation of the Reformed Cemetery , which was built in 1749 and closed in 1979 and became the property of the city in 2001. It also financed the erection of the bronze column 2000 Years of Christianity on Ruhfäutchenplatz.

Social

The Richard Borek Foundation supports the school social work project started in 2006 by the Diakonisches Werk Braunschweig. In July 2006, the foundation honored 18 secondary school students for good performance in teaching and social commitment with a certificate and an education voucher worth 150 euros.

A hospice for 12 residents on Broitzemer Strasse, built by the Diakonisches Werk in 2006 , was also funded by the foundation.

Science and Research

In cooperation with the city of Braunschweig, the foundation supported u. a. a two-year third-party funded project on controlling in public administration.
