The Braunschweig Foundation was founded in 1994 by the Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale and the Braunschweig Public Insurance Company . The foundation is based in the House of the Brunswick Foundations on Löwenwall in Brunswick . Formerly Stiftung Nord / LB · Public , short for "Foundation of the Norddeutsche Landesbank and the Public Insurance for Braunschweig".

The foundation promotes the arts and culture as well as science, technology and sport through advice, mediation and financial support, such as scholarships , prizes ( Lessing Prize for Criticism ) and activities in the parts of the old Free State of Braunschweig in Lower Saxony .

The Foundation played a key role in the implementation of the Braunschweig Foundation Days in 2002, 2005 and 2009.
