history
Obersülzen was first mentioned in the Weißenburg documents in 773. It was owned by the Counts of Leiningen until 1477 . After that, it was jointly administered by the Leiningen-Westerburg and the Electoral Palatinate for four years . In 1481 it came under the sole rule of the elector and was subordinated to the Oberamt Alzey , the competent Unteramt was Freinsheim .
The further fate of the village coincides with that of the rest of the Electoral Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine: it was annexed by France after the French Revolution and came to Bavaria in 1816, after Napoleon's final disempowerment , where it remained until the end of the Second World War .
The village belonged to the district of Frankenthal (Pfalz) until it was dissolved in 1969 and the change to the newly created district of Bad Dürkheim took place. In 1972 the place was assigned to the newly formed community of Grünstadt-Land , which in 2018 became part of the community of Leiningerland.

Sights and culture
Buildings
Protestant Church
Today's Protestant Church of St. John the Baptist on the eastern edge of the village was first mentioned in a document in 1496. It was originally a Romanesque fortified church , of which the squat tower from the early 13th century is still preserved, which has three storeys and is covered by a gable roof between shield gables. In 1766 the church received its present nave and interior. The organ was built by Wilhelm Sauer in 1896 and restored in 1984. In 2016 the 250th anniversary of the late baroque nave took place.
Mennonite Church
In the 16th century, Mennonites from Switzerland found refuge as religious refugees in Obersülzen, where they have since formed a community. In 1866 they built a small classicist church without a tower in the center of the village , which was restored at the beginning of the 21st century.
Other buildings of interest
The multi-generation courtyard and the former schoolhouse, which has been converted into a village community center, date from the classicist era. A fountain from the 16th century was moved to the garden area of the multi-generation courtyard.
