Niederkirchen is the northernmost municipality in the Kaiserslautern district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Otterbach-Otterberg .
geography
location
Niederkirchen is located 16 kilometers north of Kaiserslautern in the middle of the North Palatinate Uplands and forms the northern end of the Kaiserslautern district. Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Seelen , Reichsthal , Imsweiler , Gundersweiler , Heiligenmoschel , Schallodenbach , Olsbrücken , Kreimbach-Kaulbach , Wolfstein , Relsberg and Hefersweiler .

Surveys
In the southeast of the municipality on the border with Schallodenbach and Heiligenmoschel, the 459.7 m above sea level extend . NHN high Reiserberg and to the west of it the 444 meter high gallows . Further north is the 414.7 meter high Buchborn . To the west is the Eichelberg , the 320 meter high Bornberg , the 387 meter high Heidenberg and the 402.9 meter high Buchenknopf . The 396 meter high Eulenberg rises further to the east .
Waters
The Odenbach flows through the middle of the municipality . At the boundary to Schallodenbach it takes the Faulborn from the left , then the Neuhöfer Bach and the Wörsbach and from the right the Finstergraben and the Käsbach . In the middle of the settlement area the Weilerbach flows from the left and the Steinbach from the right into the Odenbach and in the far north of the district the Farsbach , the Kohlengraben , the Morgraben and the Moorbach .
history
From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Niederkirchen was incorporated into the Canton of Otterberg . In 1815 the municipality first belonged to Austria . A year later she moved to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 she belonged to the Land Commissioner in Kaiserslautern ; from this the district office of Kaiserslautern emerged.
From 1939 the place was part of the district of Kaiserslautern . After the Second World War , Niederkirchen became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , the neighboring towns of Heimkirchen, Morbach and Wörsbach were incorporated into Niederkirchen. Three years later the community was incorporated into the newly formed Verbandsgemeinde Otterberg . Since July 1, 2014, it has been part of the Otterbach-Otterberg Association, which was created through the merger of the Otterberg and Otterbach Association .
