About this picture
The village of Ebertsheim

Ebertsheim , Ewwertsem in Palatinate , is a municipality in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Bad Dürkheim . It belongs to the community of Leiningerland and is located in the northwest of the European metropolitan region Rhine-Neckar .

geography

location

Ebertsheim with its local district Rodenbach is located in the north of the district in the historic Leiningerland within the Eisenberg basin . About 3 km to the east, the Eistal opens up on the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest to the hill country on the German Wine Route and the Rhine plain . In addition, the commune mountain corridor is partly on the municipality of Ebertsheim. Neighboring towns clockwise from the north are Lautersheim , Quirnheim , Mertesheim , Grünstadt , Tiefenthal , Hettenleidelheim , Eisenberg and Kerzenheim .

Waters

The Eisbach and its tributaries Seltenbach flow through the village - from the right - and Rodenbach from the left. The Rodenbach takes on the Mangelbach from the right at the edge of the settlement of the district of the same name .

history

The Franconian settlement "Eberolfesheim" was first mentioned in 768 in the Lorsch Codex . However, the first settlements were much older, such as finds from the Latène period around 500 BC. And the Roman times around 100 AD. Ebertsheim was continuously owned by the Counts of Leiningen from the Middle Ages . Today the Leininger Straße reminds us of this. In addition, there is a deserted area called Mückenhausen in the municipality's catchment area .

After 1792, French revolutionary troops occupied the region. In the Peace of Campo Formio (1797) it was annexed by France . From 1798 to 1814 Ebertsheim belonged to the French department of Donnersberg and, unlike today's district of Rodenbach , was assigned to the canton of Grünstadt and had its own Mairie . In 1815 Ebertsheim had a total of 420 inhabitants. According to the agreements of the Congress of Vienna (1815) and an exchange treaty with Austria , the region became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 . From 1818 the community Ebertsheim was part of the Landkommissariat Frankenthal in the Bavarian Rhine District, later assigned to the District Office Frankenthal, from which the District Frankenthal (Palatinate) emerged in 1938 .

After the Second World War , Ebertsheim and Rodenbach became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone and belonged to the administrative district of Palatinate . Until June 7, 1969 Ebertsheim was in the Frankenthal district, which was dissolved as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform. Simultaneously with the change of district, the smaller community of Rodenbach (at that time 271 inhabitants), which until then belonged to the neighboring and also extinct district of Kirchheimbolanden , and the much larger Ebertsheim (1141 inhabitants), today's community Ebertsheim was formed. In 1972, the community was assigned to the new community of Grünstadt-Land , which was added to the community of Leiningerland in 2018 . Rodenbach is still used in village life to mark localities or associations , and in 2006 it received the status of a local district .

In August 2009, an escaped Bennett kangaroo made headlines, which was initially seen in the Ebertsheim district and later also photographed.

religion

The Catholics belong to the diocese of Speyer and are subordinate to the dean's office in Bad Dürkheim . Since January 1, 2016, the place has been a branch of the parish of St. Michael located in Grünstadt. Before that, Ebertsheim formed a branch from Boßweiler on the Catholic side . In 1921 the Catholic order of the Hildegardis Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate was founded in Ebertsheim . The Evangelicals belong to the Protestant Church of the Palatinate . As of July 31, 2014, 44.3% of the population were Protestant and 26.8% Catholic. The rest belonged to another religion or were non-denominational.
