Johann Adam Schlesinger
Johann Adam Schlesinger (* 1759 in Ebertsheim ; † February 7, 1829 in Grünstadt ) was a German painter .
Live and act
Johann Adam Schlesinger was born as the son of the stone carver Johann Schlesinger and his wife Carolina. Trübenbach, born in the Palatinate village of Ebertsheim. He learned the art of painting from his grandfather Johann Trübenbach, who himself was active in this profession.
The young artist studied in Berlin and married the Grünstadt bourgeois daughter Catharina Barbara Becker. He settled with her in Worms , but soon returned to Grünstadt, his wife's homeland, where he was promoted to court painter for the Counts of Leiningen who lived here . There the family lived in the corner house on Jakobstrasse / Berggasse (later the Rupp grocery store).
Johann Adam Schlesinger was a renowned painter in the region; many pictures for churches, but also portraits and still lifes are from his hand. For the catholic parish church of his domicile Grünstadt he created the impressive high altar painting "Crossing up" around 1800 , which makes him unforgettable there to this day. A portrait of Luther hangs in the city's Protestant “Friedenskirche”. There are also paintings by Johann Adam Schlesinger in the Nikolauskirche in Kleinkarlbach (pulpit and gallery) and in the Stephanskirche in Ebertsheim . The depiction there, "Luther with the swan", is one of his most famous works , along with the Grünstadt "erection of the cross" . In the Protestant deanery museum at the Martinskirche Grünstadt several Schlesinger pictures are exhibited, which come from the church in Kirchheim an der Weinstrasse . The two still lifes "with strawberries" and "with currants" hang in the Alte Nationalgalerie on Museum Island in Berlin.
In the years 1812 and 1813, when Worms belonged to the French Republic, he is recorded as a member of the Worms Masonic Lodge "Du Temple réédifié de l'Ámitié fraternelle".
The Grünstadt "Schlesingerstraße" is named after Johann Adam Schlesinger . His son Johann Jakob (1792–1855) and his brother Johann (1768–1840) were also well-known Palatinate painters. For the 100th anniversary in 2012, the Ebertsheim elementary school was named: Johann Adam Schlesinger Elementary School.
