Harxheim im Zellertal is the largest district of the municipality of Zellertal in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate with around 860 inhabitants (as of 2010) .

The place is at 160  m above sea level. NHN in the Zellertal on the eastern edge of the North Palatinate Uplands , which merges into the Alzeyer hill country in this area , in the western area of ​​the entire municipality.

Waters

Harxheim is embedded in a flood plain of the Primm , which touches the northern edge of the settlement and is a left tributary of the Rhine . The Ammelbach runs through the middle of the settlement area and flows into the Pfrimm from the right.

The municipality of Zell joins to the north, Niefernheim to the east. Harxheim also includes the Bannmühle, Jüngstmühle and Pfalzmühle residential areas .

history

Until the end of the 18th century the place belonged to the Electoral Palatinate . From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was initially part of the French Republic and from 1804 part of the Napoleonic Empire , Harxheim was incorporated into the canton of Göllheim . During this time the place was the seat of a Mairie , which was also responsible for Niefernheim and Zell. From 1816 Harxheim belonged to Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 Harxheim was part of the Kirchheim Land Commissioner , which was then converted into a district office. In 1938, still under Bavarian administration, the place was incorporated into the Kirchheimbolanden district.

After the Second World War , Harxheim became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate, the place changed on June 7, 1969 to the newly created Donnersbergkreis . Until the end of 1975 Niefernheim was an independent municipality ; On January 1, 1976, the place was merged with the neighboring communities of Harxheim and Zell to form the newly created local community of Zellertal.

Both the Catholics and the Protestants belonged to the parish of Zell in the first half of the 20th century. Until November 2015, on the Catholic side, Harxheim belonged to the parish of St. Philipp von Zell , since then it has been part of the parish of St. Philip the Hermit .

Residents

In 1815 the place had 453 inhabitants. In 1928 there were 649 people living in 112 residential buildings. In 2010 there were 860 inhabitants.

There are a total of ten objects on site that are listed . With the three horse chestnuts in the center and the three plane trees on the eastern edge of the settlement, the place has two natural monuments .

Harxheim used to be a pure winegrowing village , today it is also a community of residence for many residents who pursue their job abroad.

Bundesstrasse 47 runs along the northern edge of the settlement and connects Marnheim in the west with Worms in the east. The state road  448 leads through the village to the south , via which Ebertsheim in the valley of the Eisbach is reached.

In 1873 the Zellertalbahn was opened, which runs in the southern living area on the right bank of the Pfrimm; Harxheim-Zell station was built on the eastern edge of the village . Passenger traffic ceased in 1983, but was reactivated in 2001 for Sundays and bank holidays during the summer season.
