Location of Niefernheim in Rhineland-Palatinate

Niefernheim is part of the Zellertal community in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Geographical location

The place is located in the Zellertal on the eastern edge of the North Palatinate Bergland , which merges into the Alzeyer hill country in this area , in the eastern municipal area. The Pfrimm , which runs in an east-west direction, touches the southern edge of the settlement area. The Lauer and Reitzenmühle residential spaces also belong to Niefernheim . The border with the Alzey-Worms district runs immediately to the east . To the south-east there is also a natural monument, the Hainlust bird protection tree .

history

Until the end of the 18th century the place belonged to the Electoral Palatinate . From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Niefernheim was incorporated into the canton of Göllheim , formed a community with neighboring Zell and was subordinate to the Mairie Harxheim . From 1816 Niefernheim belonged to Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 Niefernheim was part of the Land Commissioner Kirchheim , which was then converted into a district office.

In 1928 the place had 199 inhabitants who lived in 38 residential buildings. Both the Catholics and the Protestants belonged to the parish of Zell at that time. In 1938 the place was incorporated into the Kirchheimbolanden district. After the Second World War , Niefernheim became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate, the place changed on June 7, 1969 to the newly created Donnersbergkreis . Until the end of 1975 Niefernheim was an independent municipality ; On January 1, 1976, the place was merged with the neighboring communities of Harxheim and Zell to form the newly created local community of Zellertal.

politics

Niefernheim is designated as a local district and therefore has a local advisory board and a local councilor . The local council consists of five local council members who were elected by majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 . Mayor is Elmar Schüttler. Since no nomination was submitted for the local election for this office, he was elected by the local council in August 2019. He is the successor to Paul Lorenz, who was no longer running.

Infrastructure

Niefernheim is a winemaking place . In 1873 the Zellertal Railway opened ; Although the route runs not far from the southern edge of the settlement, the closest train station was built in neighboring Harxheim and was called Harxheim-Zell . Passenger traffic ceased in 1983, but was reactivated on Sundays and public holidays in 2001 during the summer season. The district road 66 leads through the village which connects it with Zell and Wachenheim (Pfrimm) . Bundesstrasse 47 runs to the south . With the Spritzenhaus , the Herr Weingut , a courtyard and the bell tower, there are a total of four objects that are under monument protection . Until November 2015, on the Catholic side, the place belonged to the parish of St. Philipp von Zell , since then it has been part of the parish of St. Philip the Hermit .
