Erpolzheim is a municipality in the Bad Dürkheim district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is one of eight local congregations in the Freinsheim community . The municipality is located in the Palatinate (more precisely the Vorderpfalz ) in the Upper Rhine Plain on the German Wine Route ( B 271 ) about 20 km west of Ludwigshafen am Rhein and Mannheim and about 30 km east of Kaiserslautern . The eastern edge of the low mountain range Palatinate Forest , often also called Palatinate Forest or Haardt Mountains , and the spa town of Bad Dürkheim are about 6 km west of Erpolzheim. The Bad Dürkheimer and Erpolzheimer Bruch nature reserve begins on the southern outskirts . Coming from the Palatinate Forest, the Isenach brook flows through the town from west to east. It flows into the Rhine 4 km south of Worms . The Erlengraben runs along the southern edge of the settlement area and the Albertgraben along the southern edge of the district .
Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Freinsheim , Weisenheim am Sand , Birkenheide and Bad Dürkheim.
history
In 781 the place was first mentioned in a document as an Erbholfesheim near Weißenburg Abbey (Alsace) . A document from the Lorsch Codex most likely dates back to the year 777. However, when King Charles reigned, the year was not properly handwritten as a Roman number in the copial book still preserved - "X" should be read instead of "V", so that 782 would result as the year, which does not fit the rest of the context that corresponds to 777. During the time of the tribal duchies , the place belonged to the Duchy of Franconia .
Until the end of the 18th century the place belonged to Leiningen-Dagsburg . From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Erpolsheim - as it was at the time - was incorporated into the canton of Dürkheim and the seat of its own Mairie . In 1815 the place had 640 inhabitants. In the same year it was added to Austria . Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862 Erpolzheim belonged to the Landkommissariat Neustadt ; from this the district office of Neustadt emerged.
In 1902 Erpolzeim moved to the newly created Dürkheim district office before it was reintegrated into its Neustadt counterpart in 1931. From 1939 the place was part of the district of Neustadt . After the Second World War , the municipality within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate. In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , the place changed on June 7, 1969 to the newly created district of Bad Dürkheim . Three years later it was assigned to the also newly formed community of Freinsheim .
