Hasselbach is a village in the south of the Rhein-Neckar district in Baden-Württemberg , which has belonged to Sinsheim since 1971 .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 776 in the Lorsch Codex as "Haselaher marca" and was from 1400 to 1806 in the knightly possession of the Lords of Helmstatt , who reformed the place in 1556 . After the media coverage of Reichsritterschaft 1806 Hasselbach belonged as an autonomous community in Baden . In the course of the 19th century, the purely agricultural town of Hasselbach, like other communities in the area, had to provide food for the Baden troops who were passing through or for the troops billeted every year for maneuvers . The industrialization did not affect Hasselbach and the place grew only very slowly. In 1939 there were 174 inhabitants, at the end of 1945 there were 212. Between 1911 and 1961 no new house was built. The evacuees and refugees billeted after the Second World War found no employment opportunities on site and moved on to other places. 1957 were counted 230 inhabitants. In the late 20th century, agriculture in the village went back to only a few full-time farmers, so that Hasselbach is now mainly a place of residence for commuters from the surrounding areas.

Hasselbach was incorporated into Sinsheim on December 1, 1971 and had 299 inhabitants on December 31, 2004.

Religions

The place was reformed in 1556 by Philipp von Helmstatt and at that time also received a first church, which was looked after from the mother church in Adersbach . Until recently, the place was predominantly evangelical. The Mennonite community in Hasselbach has been recorded since 1700 .

coat of arms

The blazon of the former municipal coat of arms reads: A green hazel bush growing out of a lowered blue wavy bar in silver . Hazel bush and brook indicate the place name. The place had no coat of arms until 1900, only the letters "HB" were previously used in the municipality seal. The municipal coat of arms was designed in 1901 by the General State Archives.

Buildings

Protestant church
  • The Evangelical Church was built in 1810 in place of a previous building from 1556. The church was the first church building by the architect Christoph Arnold , who at the time was the master builder in Karlsruhe and an employee of Friedrich Weinbrenner .
  • The old school and town hall dates from 1840
  • Numerous rural properties from the 19th century have been preserved in the village, including the stately half-timbered building of the Bauer property in Grundstraße from 1807 and the Schreck property near the church from 1837. The half-timbered building "Am Brechloch" is believed to date from 1667 and is considered the oldest to have survived Buildings of the village. It served temporarily as a rent office, town hall and school building as well as for church services, but is now used as a residential building. In addition, there are other older properties with ornamental frameworks, the historic “Lamm” inn, outbuildings and a fountain.
  • The Mennonite Church consists of the original "prayer room" from 1846, which was extended in 1984 by a flat extension.
