Burgweinting

history

The name (castle) weinting goes back to a "Wihmuntinga" that was first mentioned in the 8th century. The addition "castle" in the name is probably due to the former Burgweinting castle . The area, which lies on very fertile loess soil , was settled long before the medieval town was founded. During the major development measures since the 1980s, settlement remains from the Neolithic , Urnfield and Iron Age , Roman and Bavarian times were found. In the course of the development measures, the floor plan of a Roman villa rustica , which had already been archaeologically recorded earlier, was made visible by planting various crops ( Villa Rustica (Burgweinting) ) and a replica of one near a site from the early medieval period on the site of the Otto Schwerdt Middle School Bavarian store built.

The previously independent municipality of Burgweinting was incorporated into the city of Regensburg on January 1, 1977 as part of the municipal reform. In the 1970s the place was connected to the motorway network. In the 1980s and 1990s, a large industrial area was designated in the east of the town, on which companies such as Alstom Sachsenwerk , Toshiba , Infineon and Osram , as well as a freight transport center, settled.

With the development measure Burgweinting of the city of Regensburg, the number of inhabitants rose to 8,400 by 2005 due to the designation of large building areas since the 1980s; In 2017 there were around 11,000.

In 2019 the local history working group published a comprehensive account of the history of Burgweining with a focus on the 20th century, which traces the development of the old village into Regensburg's district.
