The Mennonite History Association deals with the history and development of the Reformation Anabaptists and the Mennonites who emerged from the Anabaptist movement .
Assignments and history
In addition to the annual Mennonite history sheets, the association publishes books and writings on Mennonite history. In Schleswig-Holstein there is the Mennokate Museum, which is managed by the association . In 2007 the association commissioned Hans-Jürgen Goertz to publish a supplementary fifth volume of the Mennonite Lexicon .
The history association was founded in Berlin in April 1933 , after several Mennonite congregations in Altona decided to found such an association a year earlier . The association has its seat on the Weierhof , a district of Bolanden in the Palatinate . In 2013 Astrid von Schlachta took over the chairmanship of the history association, as evidenced by her studies on the history of the Hutterite brother farms.
Mennonite Research Center
The Mennonite Research Center was founded in 1948 on the initiative of the history association. Its main task is to collect and document material on the history of the Anabaptists and Mennonites. The research center was initially based in Göttingen , then in Krefeld , before it was finally relocated to Bolanden in the Weierhof district. In 1998, with the help of donations, a new building was completed, which has since housed the library and archive . The research center's library contains around 16,000 titles. Relevant books, magazines, documents and church records from Mennonite communities are collected in the archive . The German-Pennsylvanian Archive (Michael Werner Collection) has also been in the collection since 2016 , which currently comprises around 1,500 books, magazines and other media as well as around 16,000 Pennsylvania German written texts (literature, manuscripts, letters).
