history

The founder of the founding of the association is the now deceased Münster university professor and former director of the seminar for new church and theological history Robert C. Walton . The association was initially called "Association for the Promotion of Research into Free Church History and Theology e. V. "(VEfGT), since 1993 with the addition" at the University of Münster "in front of the" e. V. ". In 2001 the association gave itself its current name.

The association's yearbook has been published since 1991.

The association today includes experts and lay people from 28 churches, free churches and communities and twelve nations. The association has a total of 190 individual and 25 “corporate members”.

The association has set up its own scientific library, the holdings of which were initially located in Münster and are currently housed in the Friedensau Theological University .

job

The practical research work is currently mainly carried out in two working groups:

  • Working group history of the free churches in Germany after the Second World War . It has existed since 1994 and until 2000 was mainly concerned with the processing of the free church history of the GDR . Today it is primarily about the similarities and differences in the developments of the individual free churches in both German states. This working group is headed by Pastor Reinhard Assmann (Berlin).
  • AG Free Churches in One Christianity . It has existed since 1999 and deals with the status and perspectives of a free church understanding of unity . Werner Klän ( Oberursel ) is in charge .

The platform of the association are two annual conferences, the spring symposium and the so-called work conference in autumn . Current research results are presented here. The above-mentioned working groups also meet at these conferences.

Research results and presentations from the conferences are published in the yearbook mentioned above.

Management and seat of the association

The association is managed by a four-person board. The Methodist ecumenist and denomination scholar Christoph Raedel is the first chairman ; his deputy is Johannes Hartlapp ( Seventh-day Adventist ). The management is in the hands of Reimer Dietze (pastor in the Bund Freikirchlicher Pfingstgemeinden and lecturer at the Theological Seminary Beröa , Erzhausen).

The association has its seat in Münster, the office is currently in Erzhausen .

Journal of Free Church Research

A yearbook has been published annually since 1991, the journal Freikirchenforschung .

The volumes have key topics, and they also contain in particular year bibliographies and reviews as well as research reports and other articles, if applicable.

The magazine is distributed free of charge to members of the association.
