The Lutheran Theological University Oberursel (LThH) is a church-based, state- recognized academic university in Oberursel . It is supported by the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church .
The LThH is open to all students of Protestant theology . As a member of the University Rectors' Conference and the Protestant Theological Faculty Day, she ensures compliance with the standards of scientific and theological work such as the state universities.
history
The university stands in the tradition of two church training centers in the field of independent Evangelical Lutheran churches. From 1883 to 1945 there was the seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prussia ("Old Lutheran") and from 1922 to 1945 the seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church in Kleinmachnow near Berlin. As a successor to them, the then proseminar was founded in Groß Oesingen (Lüneburg Heath) in 1947 and the Lutheran Theological College was founded in Oberursel in 1948 by the two churches mentioned. In 1955 the university was recognized by the Hessian Ministry of Culture . The Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church has been the sole sponsor of the university since 1972.
Since then, more than 1,300 people have studied here, mostly male, as the SELK did not introduce women's ordination . Academically trained theologians are employed as pastoral officers in the SELK. In the faculty, the third generation now teaches at the chairs of the five classical theological subjects (Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology).

The Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELK) is a Lutheran confessional church. It is bound to the Holy Scriptures and the confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church . She understands her independence as independence from the state, as the church's individual responsibility for its members and as independence in terms of its constitution and finances. In this context, the SELK ensures the existence and maintenance of its own church university. This is responsible for the training of theological offspring and the offer of decidedly Lutheran theology in research and teaching.

Appointments to chairs are made at the suggestion of the faculty and after hearing the board of trustees by the church leadership of the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Research and Teaching
The university represents the classical subjects of theology (Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology) with one chair each in research and teaching. In addition, Missiology , Diakonik , canon law , Ecumenical Theology and philosophy represented in the curriculum. Her work is aimed at highlighting the present-day significance of the Lutheran-Reformation heritage in spiritual, social and ecclesiastical terms and bringing it into discussion. The study program also includes courses in the biblical languages Hebrew and Greek (one extended semester each) and Latin (two extended semesters).
Campus college
Daily and weekly routines are characterized by regular services offered by lecturers and students. Additional offerings include theological discussion evenings, weekend retreats and study days.
