Neuborn (Wörrstadt)
The Neuborn is a forest and local recreation area in the district of Wörrstadt in Rhineland-Palatinate .
location
It is located between Wörrstadt and the Rommersheim district . In some places you have a view of the Wißberg , the Donnersberg and the Großer Feldberg . The Neubornwald is a popular excursion destination and local recreation area with a fountain, a beer garden and a roofed dance hall. The entire park is car-free. The Neubornbad , an outdoor pool with a slide and a sports area can be found in the vicinity .
Landscape and offers
water
There are numerous sources in the Neuborn . The Neuborn Bach , for example, has its source here . The entire forest area is a water protection area. The fountain with its cascades, at the same time a source, was often defective in 2006–2009, but was repaired in 2010 and now feeds the largest tributary of the Neuborn stream again. The pond, which is fed by the spring and provides a spawning area for common frogs , also suffered from the defects of the spring. In 2010, thanks to a donation from the building yard, it was enriched with some aquatic plants, such as the marsh marigold, but a few years later it was destroyed by strangers and not restored.
Forest
Most of the forest is overgrown with ivy , which also climbs up the trees. There is a lot of shrubbery, but it is not dense and many old and rotten trees, most of which have been felled in recent years so that no strollers are endangered. Numerous small streams flow through the Neuborn. The forest is now a very popular destination for young and old and covers around 10 hectares.
Forest restaurant with dance hall
For a long time the Waldgaststätte Neuborn stands with her dance hall in the forest , but due to lack of visitors, she stood for a long time yet. However, operations have been resumed since 2009.
Sports
In addition to an old grass pitch with two goals, there is the Neuborn sports facility and restaurant. Football games are also played on this sports facility, which is not open to the public. The Neubornbad, an outdoor pool, is also nearby. There is also a rifle house in the forest. The area of this is secured with barbed wire fences to ensure safety.

NOAF
Every year since 2005, the Neuborn Open Air Festival has taken place on the old sports field in midsummer. The number of visitors grew annually from 500 visitors in 2005 to 3500 visitors in 2016. Numerous bands are represented every year. This event is known far beyond the borders of the Wörrstadt community and is the largest event in Wörrstadt.
Shooting range
A shooting festival takes place here every Easter. Most of the rest of the year it stands still.
Flora and fauna
In terms of plant sociology, the Neuborn belongs to the Tilio-Acerion association (mixed forests of noble deciduous trees) and is predominantly populated by Norway maple ( Acer platanoides ). In addition, there are numerous beeches , ash trees , hornbeams and occasionally horse chestnuts , linden and field maple , in the peripheral areas various Prunus species and hazel . There are also numerous Sal willows , silver willows and alders along the Rommersheimer Bach . Also planted in and around the Neuborn plane tree , Thuja and common walnut . Dogwood , cornel , hawthorn and black elder can be found on the bushes . The ground is mostly covered with ivy and evergreen , in the understory you can also find garlic mustard and numerous other herbaceous plants.
Until the beginning of the 21st century, a stable relic population of common frogs (Rana temporaria) could be found in the Neuborn, but it has become extinct in the last 10 years due to the destruction of their spawning waters. Volunteers often tried to reconstruct the old pond in the forest with dams, but the dams were repeatedly destroyed, so that the water flowed off. The destroyed fountain has now been repaired, but no spawning balls have been found in the basins since around 2010.
In addition, you will find many longhorn beetles and the rare barbed beetle , as well as a large number of birds such as the jay , blackbird , wood pigeon , buzzard , pheasant and others. Mammals include squirrels , brown hares , deer , mice , shrews , hedgehogs and martens . Occasionally, common toads can also be found in the area around the Neuborn. In addition to the above-mentioned species, insects are also home to numerous soft beetles , longhorn beetles and many other species. Lots of grasshoppers , butterflies , strip bugs and cicadas live in the meadows around the Neuborn . In the numerous streams in Neuborn live a large number of freshwater shrimp
