River flea shrimp

As Bachflohkrebse are colloquially some difficult distinguishable amphipods of the genus Gammarus of European streams, rivers and lakes designated. However, this is not a molecular-genetic demarcated subgroup of the genus. The common flea shrimp ( Gammarus pulex ), the river flea shrimp in the actual sense ( Gammarus fossarum ) and the river flea shrimp ( Gammarus roeseli ) are usually referred to as river flea shrimp .

Together with other small crustaceans , in which jerky, hopping locomotion can be observed, e.g. B. with the Hüpferlingen and the Daphnien , the river flea shrimp are colloquially referred to as water fleas .

River fleas are often used as live food in the aquarium hobby .
