history

The free Protestant movement was formed in 1876 as a reaction to the changed church constitution of the Evangelical Church in the Grand Duchy of Hesse , with which church taxes were to be introduced for the first time. In 1878 the Free Protestants numbered 4,779 members. In 1886 they joined the Federation of Free Religious Congregations in Germany (BFGD) for a few years .

Today the Free Religious Community Alzey in Rheinhessen (Humanistic Community of Free Protestants) and the Unitarian - Religious Community of Free Faith refer to their roots in the free Protestant movement.
