Candamo is a concejo of the Autonomous Region of Asturias . (In Asturias and Galicia the Concejos correspond to the Municipios in the rest of Spain.) It borders in the north on Soto del Barco , Castrillón and Illas in the south on Grado , in the east on Las Regueras , in the west on Salas and Pravia . The capital Grullos is nine kilometers away
The Concejo has a rail link to the RENFE network .
history
Around Candamo and especially on the banks of the Nalón River, rich finds from the Paleolithic have been made. An extraordinary occurrence in a cave of the rock of Candamo (discovered 1913), which is the westernmost find of a Paleolithic rock painting . The first documented mentions date from the 11th century and were found in a monastery archive. From the 13th century the place belongs to the municipality of Grado . From 1784 to 1835 the (administrative) struggle for city rights , which Candamo was granted in 1835, lasted .

After the Spanish Civil War , an industrial area was designated, which is characterized by medium-sized companies. The economic focus is still on agriculture. Due to the proximity to the Picos de Europa and the Stone Age finds, a small tourism industry has also grown in recent years.
