history
Several hundred coins that were found at the beginning of the 19th century date from the time of the Roman occupation , in the middle of the 4th century. Other coin finds from this period are said to exist, but have not yet been confirmed by archaeologists .
The first written evidence comes from a deed of donation from 857, from which it emerges that King Ordoño I hands over the area around Yernes including the town to the Archdiocese of Oviedo . In 1174, King Ferdinand II gave up all rights to the archbishopric, making the community fully subject to ecclesiastical law. Only in 1579 was a bull by Pope Gregory XIII. the community returned to the Spanish Crown.
In 1581 the then 130 inhabitants bought the area from the king and immediately began to form a council. Finally, in 1584, the village of Villabre was founded and has served as the seat of the municipal administration since then.
