Until the Middle Ages
As almost everywhere in Asturias, finds from the Bronze Age confirm the early settlement of the region.
Several ramparts from the Iron Age (Castro de El Cercu, El Prau in Castiello and La Corona in Boroñes) can still be visited today.
The Romans had also built an important road here that ran along the Rio Navia river . There are still bridges that are still in use today.
Til today
The name "Flaviana" appeared for the first time in 1115 in documents of the monastery "San Vicente de Oviedo " where an area delimitation was laid down.
In the 18th century, the region made a name for itself again during the Spanish War of Independence and the Carlist uprisings.
geography
land
The subsoil, consisting mainly of limestone , slate and sandstone , with the Peña Mea (1,560 m), la Triguera (1,291 m), la Xamoca (1,288 m) and the Tres Concejos (1,097 m) as the largest elevations, are typical of this region.
Waters
The municipality is crossed by the Río Navia .
The rivers Rio Xerra, Rio la Pontona, Rio Tisaña, Rio Soto, El Raigusu, Rio Villoría and Rimontán contribute to the impressive landscape formation.
climate
As in large parts of Asturias, the proximity to the Gulf Stream means that the climate here is almost Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers but cold winters, and in autumn there are sometimes relatively strong storms.
politics
The 17 seats of the municipal council are elected every 4 years and are allocated as follows:

economy
As in much of Asturias, agriculture is a dwindling industry. Forestry currently still has the largest share here.
Due to its location on the Rio Navia, the tourism industry, especially for nature lovers, canoeists and anglers, is growing rapidly.
Trade and production only take place in medium-sized companies.
