Corvera is a concejo (German council , corresponds to a municipality, s. Municipio ) of the Spanish Autonomous Region of Asturias . Corvera borders Avilés and Gozón to the north, Carreño and Gijón to the east, Llanera and Illas to the south and Castrillón to the west .

In the municipality, which, like almost all of Asturias, is characterized by mountains and forests, there are nature and recreation areas where water sports can be practiced, for example the Tresona reservoir , as well as hiking trails.

The temperature in the municipality is pleasant in winter and moderate in summer, as the Corvera is relatively close to the sea.

politics

The ruling Unión Social Progresista de Corvera (dt. Social-Progressive Union of Corvera ) is a local party that the current mayor Moro , who originally belonged to the PSOE , founded for the local elections in 2003. After the local elections of 2003, it provides the mayor and six of the other 16 council members and governs together with the Partido Popular (3 seats). Corvera had previously been ruled by the PSOE since the first post-French elections in 1979, but after internal quarrels, Moro's split and an unfortunate election campaign, it only received 3 seats. Partido Popular had never participated in the municipal government before.
