Location of the municipality

Parres is a municipality in the autonomous region of Asturias , in northern Spain . Bounded to the north by Caravia and Ribadesella , to the south by Amieva , to the west by Cangas de Onís and to the east by Piloña and Colunga . The main town is the district of Arriondas in which about 50% of the population live.

The entire region is shaped by agriculture and forestry. Medium-sized industry is mainly located in the nearby Arriondas. The hospital (Francisco Grande Covián) is the town's largest employer.

Population development

Due to the local hospital, Parres is one of the few Asturian communities that has seen a population increase in recent years.

Festivals

Every year on May 22nd, the feast of St. Rita takes place in Parres. The parish fair is on the 2nd weekend in July in the El Carmen district.
