Antiquity

Numerous finds from the Paleolithic confirm the early settlement of the municipality. The numerous dolmens and remains of ramparts , which still bear clear evidence today, should be emphasized .
Axes and fibulae from the Bronze Age confirm the continued settlement and brisk trade, after finds from Malleza could clearly be assigned to neighboring Álava .

From the time of the Roman occupation there are still partly used water supply channels and traces of mining at the copper and gold mines of Godán , Ablaneda and Carlés . Some place names cannot deny their Roman origin. The most important evidence is probably a stele with the inscription "Flavio Cabarco, son of Auledo and Caya lies here".

middle Ages

The first written mention of Salas comes from the year 896, in a deed of assignment from the neighboring Archdiocese of Oviedo , which concerns the church of San Martin de Salas.
The monastery Monasterio de San Salvador was founded in 1024 by order of Infanta Christina.

Modern times

At the end of the 16th century, the parishes of Soto de los Infantes , Linares and Lavi were integrated into the municipality of Salas. In 1804 the parishes of San Antolín de las Dorigas , San Esteban de las Dorigas , and San Justo de las Dorigas, Santa Eulalia de las Dorigas followed .
During the Spanish War of Independence , Marshal Ney 's advance at Cornellana was stopped on May 17, 1809, and the parish could only be taken in 1810 in a second attempt by troops under Marshal Bonnet .
