history
The first traces of settlement date from the Neolithic Age . Tumuli are seen near the villages Cueiro, Santa Cristina, Sobia and El Cordal today. 50 drawings from the period between the Bronze Age and the Iron Age, as well as the remains of several hill fortes, document the settlement at that time.
Remnants of the road network from the time of the Roman occupation are still preserved. The discovery of coins with the image of Emperor Augustus allows a chronological assignment.
The first written records about Teverga date from the 10th and 14th centuries and refer to a donation to the Archdiocese of Oviedo , which was given several properties and buildings in Teverga. The Countess of Aldanza founded the monastery of San Pedro de Teverga , which can still be visited today.
During the Spanish War of Independence , the community made a name for itself with its fighting spirit and resistance to the advancing French army.
In 1827, by order of King Bermudo III. the places Páramo and Focella incorporated into the municipality.

coat of arms
- Above, the victory cross with two angels ( cruz de los Angeles = angel's cross) refers to the coat of arms of the Archbishop of Oviedo
- Bottom left, variant of the Focella family coat of arms with the text all around: " O CUAN BIEN LO HIZO BELLIDO CON LA ESPADA EN LA MANO " (Oh how well Bellido did it with the sword in his hand)
- Lower right, coat of arms of the Miranda family
The Focella and Miranda families, like the Archdiocese of Oviedo, were feudal lords of the community for a long time and so found their way into the coat of arms.
