This article contains the list of municipal coats of arms with the scallop shell in Spain . The coats of arms are sorted according to the cities and municipalities within the autonomous communities of Spain .

As scallops or scallops are two closely related species of mussels referred both to the genus Pecten belong. The name scallop goes back to Saint James , the patron saint of pilgrims , whose distinguishing mark is the shell.

Andalusia

Andalusia ( Spanish: Andalucía [ andaluˈθi.a ]) is the southernmost community on mainland Spain. Andalusia borders the Mediterranean and the Atlantic to the south and Portugal to the west . The Focella and Miranda families, like the Archdiocese of Oviedo, were feudal lords of the community for a long time and so found their way into the coat of arms.

The capital is Vitoria-Gasteiz . The Autonomous Community is not identical to the Basque Country in the cultural sense , which includes the French Basque Country as well as the Autonomous Community and which some also include the Spanish Foral Community Navarra , which is mainly Basque in its north-west .

Extremadura

The Extremadura is located at Portugal bordering, in southwestern Spain, the capital is Mérida . The autonomous community includes the provinces of Cáceres and Badajoz .

Galicia (Spanish Galicia , Galician Galicia or Galiza ; officially Galic. Comunidade Autónoma de Galicia , Spanish Comunidad Autónoma de Galicia ) is located in northwestern Spain. It is divided into the four provinces of A Coruña , Lugo , Ourense and Pontevedra . The name goes back to the Celtic Gallaeker (also Kallaiker, Latin: Callaici), a Celto-Iberian people who settled in this region in ancient times.

Canary Islands

The Canary Islands (Spanish: Islas Canarias ) are a group of islands in the eastern central Atlantic , about 100 to 500 kilometers west of southern Morocco . The Canary Islands consist of the seven main islands Tenerife , Fuerteventura , Gran Canaria , Lanzarote , La Palma , La Gomera and El Hierro , six secondary islands La Graciosa , Alegranza , Lobos , Montaña Clara , Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste as well as some smaller uninhabited rock islands ( Anaga, Salmor and Garachico).

The capital is Toledo . Castile-La Mancha belongs to the historic central Spanish landscape of Castile and is also known as New Castile .

Castile and León (Spanish: Castilla y León ) is the largest autonomous community in Spain in terms of area. It includes the north meseta , a plateau between 600 and 800 meters above sea level bordered by mountain ranges in the north-west of central Spain. The western part forms the historical landscape of León , the central and eastern part, known as Old Castile , belongs to the historical landscape of Castile , the capital is Valladolid . Castile-León is divided into nine provinces: Ávila , Burgos , León , Palencia , Salamanca , Segovia , Soria , Valladolid and the Zamora .

Catalonia

Catalonia (katal. Catalunya [ kətəˈluɲə ], Spanish.
