Cangas do Morrazo ( Galician Cangas do Morrazo , Spanish Cangas de Morrazo ) is a Galician city in the province of Pontevedra in north-western Spain with 26,542 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).

Geographical location
Cangas is located in the comarca O Morrazo on a peninsula in the north of the Ría de Vigo . Neighboring communities are Bueu in the north and Moaña in the east, in the south the urban area is bordered by the Ría de Vigo, in the west and in the northwest by the Atlantic . Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the municipality has numerous beaches. The provincial capital Pontevedra is about 30 km away in the northeast, Santiago de Compostela is just under 100 km away.

history
Cangas do Morrazo was first mentioned in 1160 in a donation from Ferdinand II . There is evidence of a port in Cangas from 1497. In 1862 the two Parroquias Aldán and O Hío were reclassified from the municipality of Bueu to Cangas.

Infrastructure
On the Autopista del Atlántico (AP-9) , the Cangas Vigo , Pontevedra , Santiago de Compostela and La Coruña links, the city is connected to the Spanish motorway network. There are regular bus connections to Vigo and Pontevedra, where the nearest train stations are also located. There are ferry connections to Vigo via the ría, and in summer there are also connections to the Illas Cíes .
