A Guarda (official name in Galician language ; Spanish La Guardia ) is a Spanish municipality in the comarca of O Baixo Miño in the province of Pontevedra , Galicia . It is located on the Spanish-Portuguese border on the Rio Miño river . The most important sight is the archaeological site of the Celtic village Castro de Santa Tegra .

Celtic village of Castro de Santa Trega.

Monte de Santa Tegra

On the Monte de Santa Tegra, the ruins of a Celtic village that has existed since the 6th century BC and had around 3000-5000 inhabitants can be visited. There is also a 12th century chapel and a lookout point on the mountain.

Puerto Pesquero

On the harbor front, the typical maritime house facades of Galicia and the Monumento al marinero desaparecido can be seen.

beaches

In the vicinity of A Guarda are the beaches of O Muíño, A Lamiña, A Armona and O Codesal, which border the Río Minho, as well as the sea beaches Area Grande, Fedorento and O Carreiro.

Museums

Artifacts from the Bronze Age can be seen in the Masat Museum , which were discovered during the archaeological excavations on Monte de Santa Tegra. The Museo del Mar displays historical items related to fishing and the city's maritime history. The Castillo de Santa Cruz, built during the Spanish War of Independence in 1664, is now preserved as a park.

Cultural event

The most important cultural event in A Guarda is the annual "La Festa do Monte" on the Santa Tegra mountain in the second week of August. The highlight is the parade of drummers who climb the summit and drive away the "evil spirits" along the way.

Other events are “La Fiesta de la Langosta” and “Certamen gastronómico del Pez Espada”, which focus on the city's culinary specialties.
