Important places on the Sella
The river flows through the municipalities of Ponga , Amieva , Cangas de Onís , Parres (Arriondas), and Ribadesella .
Tributaries of the Sella
The Rio Sella flows through the Picos de Europa mountain range, where it is fed by numerous mountain streams. Especially when the snow is melting, the river in the upper reaches is often "torrential". Important tributaries are orographically to the right the Ponga and Piloña , from the left the Dobra , Güeña and Zardón .
shipping
Commercial shipping does not operate on the Rio Sella; however, canoeing and rafting are widespread. Every now and then, trees are tied together in rafts from the mountains (even if only as a tourist attraction) and transported downriver.
Barrages
There are no barrages in the usual sense on the Rio Sella, but numerous water mills now also produce energy for the end consumer.
Tourism / sights
The Sella River is one of the most famous canoeing areas in Spain. On the first Saturday in August there is an annual event organized by the International Canoe Association. The trout and salmon from the river are also well known, so there are many fishing grounds there. There are numerous off-road areas along the river.
