from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 49th Vuelta a España was held in 21 sections and 3531 kilometers from April 25 to May 15, 1994 and won by the Swiss Tony Rominger . Laurent Jalabert won the points classification , Luc Leblanc the mountains classification , Mauro Radaelli the Meta Volantes classification , Alessio Di Basco the Sprint Especiales classification and Banesto the team classification . When he won, Rominger was able to secure the leadership jersey in the opening time trial and did not give it up until the end of the tour. He was also able to win another five stages, the French Jalabert seven. This means that over half of the stages went to these two riders.

This edition of the Vuelta was the last to be held in spring. The tour has been taking place in September since 1995 (as of 2008).
