Igualada ( cat . [ Iɣwəɫaðə ]) is a city about 60 km northwest of Barcelona with 39,967 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the province of Barcelona in Catalonia in northeastern Spain .

Most of the southern boundary of the city is the Anoia , a tributary of the Llobregat , the eastern part is the Riera d'Òdena , a stream flowing into the Anoia in the southeast of Igualada. To the north, just outside the city limits, is the Autovía A-2 , which runs from Madrid to Barcelona and has two connections to the city.

Igualada, capital of the Comarca Anoia , is the center of a rich cultural and wine landscape and has notable industries in the fields of cotton and fabrics, soap, leather and nails.

Culture and sights

Igualada is known for its old town with narrow, winding streets and the remains of an old fortress , while the "new town" is much more modern. To the south is the Museu de la Pell d'Igualada , the only museum in Spain dedicated to leather, its manufacture and processing.
