Castle ruins

Castellolí is a small Catalan municipality in the Comarca Anoia , province of Barcelona .

The place is located in a valley of the Serra del Ninots on the Autovía A-2 and has an area of ​​25.3 km². In 2019 the place had 619 inhabitants.

history

The name of the settlement is derived from the medieval castle Castell d'Aulí . Castell d'Aulí is first mentioned in historical documents in 961. Remains of the former castle have been preserved, as well as traces of the apse of the former church of San Vicente .

In 1337 the settlement was documented in connection with the then owner of the castle Guillem de Castellolí . During the Guerra dels Segadors (1640-1652) Castellolí played a strategic role for the Spanish troops who controlled the Llobregat valley from there .

Internationally, the city only became known again with the construction of the Parcmotor de Castellolí motor sports center in 2002.
