Piera is the largest municipality in the Comarca Anoia in the province of Barcelona in Catalonia ( Spain ). The municipality has an area of 57.3 km² and 15,603 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). It is on average 324.7 m high. The population increases considerably in the summer months, as many inland residents have holiday homes in Piera.
The municipality is located in the southeast of the Comarca Anoia on the border with the Alt Penedès . According to the 1981 inventory, the municipality consists of the main town, 74 scattered settlements and 18 quarters.
Neighboring communities are Castellolí and El Bruc in the north, Pobla de Claramunt and Vallbona d'Anoia in the north-west, Cabrera d'Igualada in the west, Torrelavit in the south-west, Sant Sadurní d'Anoia in the south, Sant Llorenç d'Hortons in the south-east, Masquefa in the east and in the northeast Hostalets de Pierola .
Piera is connected to the railway lines of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya and the Hispano Igualadina as well as five interurban roads.
