Masquefa is a Catalan city ​​in the province of Barcelona in northeastern Spain . It is in the comarca of Anoia .

location

Masquefa is located about 30 kilometers northwest of Barcelona at the foot of Montserrat .

history

The place was first mentioned when Miró I , who was Count of Barcelona together with his brother Borrell II , sold the Castrum Machicepfa on March 3, 963 . The Arabic origin of the place name is a rare testimony to the brief presence of the Moors in the Barcelona area during the 8th century.

The 2007 local elections resulted in the following distribution of seats in the local council:

Economy and Transport

Around half of the communal area is used today for agriculture, mainly viticulture in the DO Penedès . In addition, the municipality of La Pedrosa has a larger industrial area, so that the industrial sector is still growing in importance today.

Masquefa has two stations on the R6 line from Barcelona to Igualada .
